With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the New York Yankees are shaping up to be one of the most active teams and have their sights set on Eugenio Suarez, the Diamondbacks slugger.

According to information from journalist Jeff Passan, third base is the weakest point in the Yankees lineup, and Suarez would be a powerful solution thanks to his offensive ability.

With 29 home runs and 75 RBIs, he ranks fourth in all of MLB in both categories this season.

Eugenio Suarez to the New York Yankees

These numbers, as well as his current contractual situation, make him an attractive asset for the New York outfit, as his contract is about to expire, which makes him a low financial risk option. If he performs well in the Bronx, they could renew him and if not, they could let him go.

The Venezuelan signed a seven-year, $66 million contract with the Reds, and is currently in the final season.

New pitcher for the Yankees

In addition to interest in Suarez, Passan suggests that the Yankees could target a double package that also includes Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly, two of Arizona’s most solid arms.

This type of trade would allow the Yankees to cover two key weaknesses: hitting in the hot corner and depth in their starting rotation. For the Diamondbacks, who are shaping up to be sellers, it would be an opportunity to rebuild their future with valuable prospects or assets from New York.

Passan also explained why Eugenio Suarez would be preferable to other alternatives such as Nolan Arenado or Ryan McMahon, because his short contract offers flexibility, without long-term commitments, as well as his current offensive power, which is superior to that of the other prospects.

The Yankees are currently in second place in the American League East, only behind the Blue Jays by two games. This position is due to the poor performance in recent dates, which, in turn, is due to the multiple injuries that the New York team has experienced, which is why the arrival of Eugenio Suarez seems imperative.
