The Super Bowl is now set and looks truly appealing, although no one imagined at the beginning of the season that the New England Patriots, led by Drake Maye and coming off a four-win season, would be facing the Seattle Seahawks for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Seattle, meanwhile, signed Sam Darnold as their new quarterback in free agency.

One would think the spotlight would be on the Super Bowl teams and everything surrounding the event, but as the week began, the most high-profile player in the NFL, Shedeur Sanders, once again dominated social media after it was announced that he would be selected to the Pro Bowl, replacing Drake Maye, who will be competing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Social media immediately exploded, and most of the comments were negative toward Shedeur Sanders. It’s not that he performed poorly with the Browns; in fact, he looked better than Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco. However, being selected to the Pro Bowl is highly questionable, especially considering there were better options, such as Trevor Lawrence.

Shedeur Sanders ranked above Aaron Rodgers

In the penultimate week of the current season, the Cleveland Browns hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cleveland ended up winning the game thanks to a dominant defensive performance that seriously jeopardized Pittsburgh’s playoff chances, which they ultimately secured by defeating the Baltimore Ravens.

In that game, Aaron Rodgers and Shedeur Sanders greeted each other. Now, the debate on social media centers on why Shedeur Sanders was chosen for the Pro Bowl instead of a player like Aaron Rodgers, who did lead his team to the playoffs and was statistically superior in every category to the Browns quarterback, who started only seven games.

It’s clear there were better options than Shedeur Sanders, but the NFL is hoping that having such a high-profile player like the Browns’ quarterback will bring some relevance to an event that has long since lost prestige.

Another interesting fact is that Shedeur Sanders is the first Browns quarterback to be selected to the Pro Bowl since 2008. The last Cleveland quarterback to make the Pro Bowl was Derek Anderson. There’s no doubt there will be plenty of intrigue having Shedeur involved in the events leading up to the Super Bowl.
