Before the first pitch at Yankee Stadium on Opening Day 2025, Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed that the players will take the field with great sorrow for the unfortunate loss of Miller, the youngest son of former star Brett Gardner

TMZ Sports reports that at the MLB’s Opening Day press conference, Boone said the players will keep the 14-year-old in mind throughout the season.

“I talk to our guys a lot about perspective,” he said. “While this is so important to us, it’s our livelihood, we put so much into this, so many people care about it, it’s baseball. I really think it’s important that we reflect on that every once in a while, when we get caught up in it,” the manager added.

In addition, Boone said that her daughter was close to Gardner’s children, so she has seen the impact of Miller’s death on her children.

“I think we can all imagine how difficult this is right now for the Gardner family,” the 52-year-old coach said. “So we’ll take the field with great sorrow today, and actually throughout the year.”

The Yankees will observe a minute’s silence on Opening Day in memory of Miller Gardner, who died last week while vacationing in Costa Rica with his family.
