That’s right, you read that right. The WBC is already putting all the pressure on Dmitry Bivol to defend his championship against David Benavidez in his next fight. This raises a lot of questions, as one would think he should be making a trilogy with Artur Beterbiev, but it seems that the boxing organization has other plans.
The WBC has already set a date for Bivol to negotiate a fight with Benavidez, which would be April 8 of this year
The WBC sent letters to the entire team of Bivol and Benavidez to start making plans, as they are demanding that this mandatory fight be made.
It’s all in Bivol’s hands
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman announced that the WBC has officially ordered Dmitry Bivol to defend his light heavyweight titles against David Benavidez. Both parties will have to negotiate, and if an agreement is not reached, the Russian boxer could be stripped of the belt
If Bivol opts to go for the trilogy with Beterbiev, he could negotiate a waiver deal with Benavidez or vacate his WBC title, basically they have him against the ropes
The Russian boxer will have to use his head to think about what his next challenge will be. Bivol is even thinking about Canelo, but it seems that the smartest thing to do would be a third fight with Beterbiev
Fans want to see Bivol vs Benavidez
Turki Alalshikh would already be pushing for Bivol vs Beterbiev 3, but fans are tired of seeing them after two fights and prefer Benavidez for the four titles, as it would be the biggest challenge in the career of the ‘Mexican monster’
Imagine a scenario where Bivol loses to Benavidez and the trilogy would be totally tarnished, so the future depends 100% on Bivol and his representatives. We will see what decision he makes, but whatever happens, boxing connoisseurs are the real winners.
