The WBC has ordered Shakur Stevenson to defend his lightweight title against number one contender William Zepeda. The organization has given them an ultimatum of 30 days to reach an agreement, if they do not, a purse bid would be held on May 6.
A fight that would promise a lot, as both boxers have different styles and boxing experts say it could steal any show presented during the year
Had Shakur refused to face Zepeda?
And recently, Stevenson confessed that he turned down an offer from Turki Alalshikh to fight Zepeda in the summer.
“Turki promised me a number and now he’s going back on that number he promised me and sending his towel boys to pass me the information… Mr. De La Hoya, now let’s negotiate,” Stevenson wrote
“I’m still champion and I’m not retiring from anything. If we can’t reach an agreement, then it will be by purse bid.”
Some statements that surprise many, as it seemed that Shakur had a good relationship with Turki, but it seems that things have changed
Is Zepeda ready for this challenge?
After two close decision victories against Tevin Farmer, doubts about Zepeda’s performance against Stevenson have begun to surface among fans
With his technical boxing style and excellent defense, Stevenson could be a considerable challenge for Zepeda, given the tricky matchup he had against Farmer.
Shakur, with his technical skill, tactical intelligence and solid defense, is a superior opponent to the one Zepeda has faced lately. It is true that a triumph would elevate his name to another level, opening the doors to the elite of boxing.
This clash would not only be a monumental leap in terms of difficulty or names, but also a moment of tension and glory to reveal whether Zepeda has the fire and skill necessary to shine among one of the best in his category, only his abilities will answer the question.
