Now a video from 2023 has resurfaced showing just how ordinary his day-to-day can be, showing Kelce casually browsing at the grocery chain and despite his celebrity status, shoppers resisted the temptation to crowd him.
They were allowing the NFL star to move through the aisles uninterrupted as the Chiefs‘ ace tight end went about his routines, although he hadn’t gone unnoticed as the mood inside the store was a mixture of excitement and admiration.
“No one approached him, was weird, or acted crazy,” said one Kansas City shopper who filmed part of the scene. “The moment he left, the whole store exploded.”
The restrained response by Chiefs fans is notable, particularly given Kelce‘s current place at the center of both the sports and entertainment spotlight as his engagement to Swift has made him a household name far beyond NFL circles.
Sightings of the couple often trigger large public reactions, however, Kansas City residents appeared intent on giving their star player space and a social media user named @alexowenskc highlighted the respect shown during the encounter, praising the local fan base.
“I freaking love Kansas City for being so respectful and polite also, he’s a king and so beautiful,” @alexowenskc said, as the small episode reflects the unique relationship between Kelce and his adopted city.
Since being drafted in 2013, he has become a fixture in Kansas City’s culture, helping to bring three Lombardi Trophies to Arrowhead while also becoming a public figure embraced by the community.
The Trader Joe’s moment underlined the sense of normalcy fans were willing to extend to him, even as his fame continues to climb ahead of the 2025/26 NFL season with the Chiefs.
What was Kelce shopping for by the way? One item stood out in particular: ice cream. Trader Joe’s, of course, is well known for its variety of desserts, including miniature cones and cookie ice cream sandwiches.
