The Kansas City Chiefs may be the talk of the town in the NFL Playoffs due to their quest for a three-peat, but the remaining three other teams have amazing storylines as well. While those are all interesting, it’s the Washington Commanders that are truly extraordinary. Behind the stellar play of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, Washington has gone from picking second overall in the most recent NFL Draft to being one of the four best teams in the league in less than a calendar year. Daniels piggybacked off of his incredible final year at LSU to become one of the best rookie quarterbacks the league has ever seen.

How did he do it? Virtual reality. Yes, that virtual reality. Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury revealed Daniels’ secret to success in a recent press conference.

Daniels essentially trained his brain at 1.75x the normal of speed of real life. In theory, it slows down his brain in real life and makes defenses feel slower. It began while he was at LSU, and it led to a drastic change in his performance.

The VR system was developed by a company called Cognilize, and it was originally built for soccer. Two LSU employees, Jack Marucci and Mario Macaluso, saw an opportunity with it.

It’s truly incredible what it has done for his development, and it could be a breakthrough in player progression throughout all levels of football.
