The Palestinian Football Association said in a statement that former Palestine national team player Suleiman Al-Obeid “was martyred after Israeli forces attacked those waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday”.

The 41-year-old, who had five children, was nicknamed the Pelé of Palestinian soccer. He began his career at Khadamat Al-Shati, then joined the Al-Amari Youth Center Club in the occupied West Bank, and later Gaza Sports Club.

During his long career, Al-Abeed scored more than 100 goals, making him one of the stars of Palestinian football.

The Palestinian FA concluded: “The number of football association martyrs has reached 321, including players, coaches, administrators, referees and board members”.
