The National Football League (NFL) announced the verdict regarding the potential suspension of Kansas City Chiefs star receiver Rashee Rice, who was charged with eight legal charges. Rice played in four games last year before suffering a serious, season-ending knee injury.

The Chiefs finished with a 15-2 record and reached Super Bowl 59 last season, but the offense clearly missed Rice’s presence on the field. Tight end Travis Kelce finished as their career leader in receiving with 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns.

What did Rashee Rice do that prompted the NFL to seek his suspension?

On March 30 of last year, Rice was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in Dallas while street racing with his friend, Theodore Knox. Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus at 120 mph (191 km/h), which caused a crash involving four other vehicles.

Two people were briefly hospitalized with injuries from the crash and recovered. Rice surrendered and was charged with eight counts, including one count of aggravated assault and one count of collision causing bodily injury.

Rice, 25, also faces four lawsuits, with one plaintiff seeking up to $1 million in damages. While the legal proceedings unfold, it appears the Chiefs won’t have to worry about Rice’s suspension. From a football perspective, it’s a victory for the reigning AFC champions.

The Chiefs didn’t make many big passing plays last season. One reason for that was the loss of Rice early in the year to a knee injury. They hope Rice will return as part of a veteran wide receiver group that also includes Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
