The NFL and ESPN are starting to show they don’t want Taylor Swift as much anymore for two important reasons

Taylor Swift received just 35 seconds of screentime in the recent Kansas City Chiefs victory over the Houston Texans, prompting theories ESPN and the NFL no longer want her on broadcasts as often as 2023/24.

The 35-year-old billionaire was on television screens across the United States for 54 seconds when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers to claim Super Bowl LVIII but that number dropped by 19 seconds for 2025’s AFC Divisional game.

Initially tapping into her star power for marketing opportunity, it seems as though the league has become aware of the risk of using her too much, which seems to upset the older and more established fans by detracting from the field.

Even some more famous personalities such as the ex-Green Bay Packers‘ Brett Favre, and Chris Russo a prominent broadcaster, both expressed the risk of her being a negative impact on the sport and the Chiefs.

However, it is unclear whether they’ll expand her use from the AFC Championship game on January 26; as the Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills for another spot in the Super Bowl, which will be held on February 9.

Is the decline of screen time true or a myth?

Interestingly, studying the data shows Swift‘s screentime in the AFC Divisional game grew from 25 seconds in 2023/24 to 35 seconds in 2024/25, actually indicating she’s on the air more than ever.

The growth of 10 seconds was a rise of 40%, so on that basis she can be expected to be on the TV for 61 seconds in the upcoming Championship game and for 75 seconds in the Super Bowl, should the Chiefs make it.

The AFC Championship game will be held on January 26 at the Arrowhead Stadium, as the Chiefs welcome the Bills to Missouri. Kick-off is from 18:30 ET/15:30 PT. Patrick Mahomes is 3-0 against Josh Allen in the NFL Playoffs.
