Ryan Helsley arrives at Mets after deal with Cardinals
The Mets acquired two-time All-Star reliever Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for three minor league players, it was announced Wednesday. Although he was one of the best closers in baseball, Helsley was expected to serve as a setup man for the Mets’ star closer Edwin Diaz
The Mets began the restructuring of their bullpen in midseason last Friday with the acquisition of left-hander Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles. The three veterans should bolster a relief corps that has been hampered by injuries and overuse over the past two months.
