One of the most talked about stories of the summer in international basketball has been the physical transformation of Luka Doncic, criticized since his arrival in the NBA for his supposed excess weight. After appearing on the cover of Men’s Health a few months ago, it was confirmed that the Slovenian had lost 14 kilos since the 2024 Finals he played with the Mavericks against the Boston Celtics.

This week the league’s teams have resumed activity with the first training sessions. In the Lakers’ workouts, it was revealed that Doncic has increased six kilos compared to last season, going from 104.3 to 110.6.

One of the reasons Dallas traded him in February was doubts about his fitness and his tendency to gain weight. In that deal, Anthony Davis and Max Christie arrived in Dallas. However, Davis was only able to play nine games in the final stretch of the regular season due to injury.

Doncic’s departure, motivated by being overweight, seems to have had a ‘boomerang’ effect: Davis has appeared seven kilos heavier than last season and, unlike the Slovenian, it does not seem to be muscle.

Davis: “I’m not worried”

“I feel good. It almost always happens to me at the beginning of each season, because I gain a lot of weight during the summer, and by the time November comes around, I’m usually like 115.7, 117.0 kilos. I never want to start with my ideal playing weight, because then I lose weight during the season and I get too light. I lose 4.5 to 5.4 kilos very quickly. So I’m never worried about that. I feel great. I’m moving very well. I feel good,” Davis explained.
