Gainbridge Fieldhouse witnessed Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever‘s 91-90 loss to Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream.

In a game that kept the fans on their toes until the final buzzer, Rhyne Howard hit two crucial shots with nine seconds left in the game to give Atlanta a one-point victory.

Griner was the one who led her team to the top, getting her first win of the 2025 WNBA season and contributing 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. She also picked up her first win over Caitlin Clark (0-4), a feat she had not accomplished since CC joined the WNBA. However, Atalanta had to finish the game without her.

The center had to leave the court after picking up her sixth foul, so she watched her team’s agonizing victory from the bench. After the game, she and Howard talked to the press and a question generated a comical scene and an original answer.

A reporter asked Howard if she had learned anything from Griner in late-game situations, but before she could answer, it was Brittney herself who stated:

Put your hand in the cookie jar and draw the foul at the end. That’s what she learned tonight.

Atlanta Dream vs. Indiana Fever

Despite Griner’s numbers, the one who got the looks was also her teammate, Brionna Jones, who tallied 19 points, 13 rebounds and locked up and prevented Aliyah Boston from being able to snatch the win out of her hands on the last play of the game.

For Indiana, DeWanna Bonner moved up to eighth on the league’s all-time rebounding list with 3070, passing Tina Thompson with her first rebound of the game. This accomplishment comes on the heels of becoming the third-leading scorer in WNBA history during the Fever’s season opener against Angel Reese‘s Chicago Sky.

For her part, Clark scored 27 points, five rebounds and 11 assists. In doing so, she becomes the first player in WNBA history to open the season with +20 points and +10 consecutive assists.

Now, Caitlin and Fever will have a chance for a rematch on Thursday, facing Atlanta Dream again. Will Griner put her hand in the cookie jar?
