One of the images of the first day of the Australian Open came in the first round match of the women’s singles draw between Zeynep Sonmez and Ekaterina Alexandrova.
At one point in the match, which was played at the 1573 Arena in 30-degree heat, a ball girl collapsed on the net.
Tennis player Zeynep Sonmez quickly went to the aid of the young woman, who left the court with her help in front of the worried faces of the crowd.
The Tunisian, who came through the qualifying round, was rewarded for her good work with a victory over Alexandrova, who came to the tournament as the 11th seed. Sonmez closed a favorable score of 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4, in two hours and 37 minutes.
