September 10, 2025, will be remembered as one of the saddest days in United States history. On that dark day, political activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated, and the nation was shaken profoundly. Kirk lost his life during one of his events at Utah Valley University.

Both Republicans and Democrats condemned the act and called for national unity. Charlie Kirk was 31 years old, had a very close relationship with President Donald Trump, and was a well-known conservative political activist.

Kirk was the founder and leader of the conservative movement Turning Point USA (TPUSA). Following this tragic event, reactions and statements came quickly. One of the most forceful came from Utah Governor Spencer Cox, who described the incident as a “political assassination.”

The Dallas Cowboys honored Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk was also a devoted sports fan, known for his love of the NFL’s Chicago Bears and the MLB’s Chicago Cubs. While some teams-and the NFL as a whole-chose not to pay tribute, which sparked criticism among fans, there were teams that did honor him.

One of these was the Dallas Cowboys, who held a moment of silence before their game against the New York Giants. Kirk’s photo was displayed on the stadium’s massive screens while most of the fans stood to show their respect.

Other teams that paid tribute included the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, and Green Bay Packers, all observing a moment of silence. Interestingly, the Chicago Bears-the team Kirk had been a fan of-did not even post a tribute on social media, which upset some of their fans.

The NFL allowed each team to decide individually whether to honor Charlie Kirk, but the league itself did not issue a formal tribute, drawing criticism since in previous cases, the league had done so.
