Another NFL season passes, and the Dallas Cowboys once again head into an offseason with more questions than answers. After back-to-back seven-win seasons, it’s tough to imagine the Cowboys competing for a Super Bowl for a while. They may have their head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, for the foreseeable future, but everything else on the team appears to be middling.
Fans are trying to find avenues of hope. Dak Prescott is coming off of a strong season and the offense is in good shape. The defense is not. But there are more concerning, underlying problems that owner Jerry Jones is almost entirely at fault for.
The Dallas Cowboys “lack accountability” and are “cheap” at every level
Cowboys superfan and podcaster Stargazer Sports recently delved into the franchise’s deep-rooted issues. She came out with the thought that the franchise isn’t “cursed”, but instead suffers from a “culture problem”.
The coaches leave, and they win. The players leave, and they win. I have one word for y’all: it’s accountability. And it’s that we’re cheap. From the top down in this organization, lack accountability. At all levels. We lack accountability with our owner, with these coaches and these players.
She actually makes note that Jones tends to make the right coaching hires, but they don’t succeed in Dallas like they do elsewhere. There are some similarities with players as well, pointing to an overarching issue with the team’s culture.
Kellen Moore won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles after leaving the team. Dan Quinn reached the NFC Championship game with the Washington Commanders. Mike McCarthy just got hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Then there are players like DeMarcus Lawrence, who has played a pivotal role in the Seattle Seahawks‘ Super Bowl run this season. We all know what happened with Micah Parsons, and even Rico Dowdle had success with the Carolina Panthers this year.
The Cowboys aren’t cursed. But there’s a negative aura surrounding the organization, and it has everything to do with the culture that Jones has cultivated.
