Despite being projected as a first-round pick in the recent Draft, Shedeur Sanders slid unexpectedly and wasn’t selected until the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns. In his final season with the Colorado Buffaloes, he threw 37 touchdown passes and looked destined to enter the NFL as a star.

Although some have tried to downplay Shedeur Sanders’ talent, no analyst had him dropping past the second round at the very worst. In fact, five quarterbacks were taken before Sanders in the Draft, including his college teammate Dillon Gabriel.

During the preseason, Sanders was consistently the last option. He only got the chance to start against the Panthers because Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett were both injured. In that game, Sanders threw two touchdown passes but still failed to convince Kevin Stefanski to give him more opportunities.

The Browns’ locker room wants Sanders – Kevin Stefanski doesn’t

It came as no surprise when, in mid-August, Kevin Stefanski named Joe Flacco the Browns’ starting quarterback. Flacco was the only one with experience in Stefanski’s system after having played with the team in 2023. However, his 2025 season has been a disaster – he’s already been intercepted six times.

Flacco’s time seems to be running out, and if a change comes, it will likely be Dillon Gabriel taking over the offense. But the fans want to see Shedeur Sanders.

It’s not just the fans, though. Robert Griffin III published an analysis on social media, pointing out what’s happening inside the Browns’ locker room. According to the former NFL quarterback, players want Sanders to be the starter, even if the coaching staff doesn’t.

If that’s true, it’s only a matter of time before the locker room fractures. And even though Kevin Stefanski has twice been named NFL Coach of the Year with the Browns, it seems almost certain he won’t return as head coach next season.
