The Buffalo Bills are reportedly exploring a significant roster move, with their sights set on acquiring Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, aiming to provide quarterback Josh Allen with the elite receiving weapon he has lacked in recent seasons.

The move could signal a major shift in the Bills’ offensive strategy and position them as stronger contenders in the AFC.

Currently, Buffalo may part ways with receiver Samuel Curtis, whose inconsistent performance and $9 million cap hit have limited roster flexibility. Cutting Curtis would free over $6 million in cap space, enabling the Bills to pursue a high-impact replacement like Brown.

“Cutting Samuel (Curtis) helps both situations,” Joe Buscaglia tells The Athletic. “It adds over $6 million to their salary cap and helps refresh an inconsistent receiver room from 2025.”

Buffalo’s Roster Reset and Strategic Move for A.J. Brown

struggled during the 2025 season, appearing in just six games and recording seven catches for 81 yards. While he started multiple contests, injuries and underperformance rendered him expendable in a roster reset focused on strengthening Allen‘s supporting cast. Acquired in 2024 from Washington, Curtis brought experience but failed to make a consistent offensive impact, and his contract’s high cap hit has limited Buffalo’s flexibility to pursue a Pro-Bowl-level receiver.

Meanwhile, A.J. Brown has established himself as one of the league’s premier wideouts. A three-time Pro Bowler, he reportedly requested a trade after Week 3 of the 2025 season, with tensions between him and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni fueling speculation about his availability. Last season, Brown totaled 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns, demonstrating he could immediately upgrade Buffalo’s offense and provide Allen the elite target necessary for deep playoff runs.

Despite ongoing trade speculation, Brown recently announced another year of his youth football camp, appearing in an Eagles uniform with “FlyEaglesFly,” signaling he may remain in Philadelphia for now. However, the Bills’ urgent need for a top-tier receiver ensures they remain positioned to act if opportunities arise to acquire him.

Acquiring Brown would give Josh Allen the consistent, high-level weapon he has lacked in his pursuit of an AFC title, while simultaneously revitalizing the Bills’ passing game. By combining a star quarterback with a proven Pro Bowl receiver, Buffalo could transform its offense into a Super Bowl-caliber unit and address a glaring weakness that has hindered their championship aspirations in recent seasons.
