Not long after being released by Miami, veteran edge rusher Matthew Judon found himself with a new opportunity and a team that believes there is still something left to tap into.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms with Matthew Judon, adding a familiar name to a defensive front that has been searching for consistency.
The timing is notable, with Buffalo set to travel to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Judon‘s reputation was built over a long stretch of steady production. From 2017 through 2022, he was among the league’s most reliable pass rushers, reaching at least six sacks every season and earning four straight Pro Bowl selections between 2019 and 2022.
His most disruptive years came with the New England Patriots, where he recorded 12.5 sacks in 2021 and followed it with 15.5 the next year.
A low-risk move for a defense that needs answers
Judon‘s career took a turn after a contract dispute ended his time in New England. He was traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, where his season was uneven but not without contribution. He finished with 5.5 sacks and five pass breakups across 17 games, flashing the instincts that once made him a focal point.
His stint with the Miami Dolphins proved far more difficult. Judon failed to record a sack and posted a 43.3 grade from Pro Football Focus, leading to his release and another reset.
For Buffalo, the decision comes down to need and timing. The Bills have struggled to consistently pressure quarterbacks, with Joey Bosa currently leading the team with five sacks. That number reflects a unit still searching for a reliable complement along the edge.
Judon joins a growing list of veteran additions in Buffalo, following signings of players like Mecole Hardman and Brandin Cooks earlier this season. The approach is clear: add experience, raise the floor, and see if familiarity with big moments can make a difference.
