Jimmy Butler‘s arrival at the Golden State Warriors looks to have been a masterstroke from the franchise, but it could have blown up in their faces very early on.
Whilst one massive star arriving to join up with the massive stars already in the team is the stuff of dreams for fans, it can be an incredibly difficult situation for those that have to control it and keep everyone happy.
Stephen Curry was not totally sold on the terms of Butler‘s arrival at the Warriors a month or so ago, and he made that clear by drawing a comparison between Butler and Kevin Durant.
“With any deal, you question it,” Curry told The Athletic. Even when KD came, it was like, you don’t know what it’s going to look like. We came into it positive, but you still had to see it. That uncomfortability is good because it challenges everyone to talk through it, come with the right preparation.”
Butler was never concerned
As far as Butler himself was concerned, he did not have any worries about joining the Warriors after it became clear that he could not stay with the Miami Heat any longer.
“I wasn’t skeptical of coming here (Warriors),” Butler admitted to Anthony Slater. “I just didn’t talk to anybody.
“I knew I was going to get this contract no matter what. The people keep talking about it being about the money. How can it be about the money when any team that traded for me, what were they going to do? I just want to win. Where can I go to win?”
Butler has certainly been able to produce some of his best form since arriving at the Warriors, delivering impressive performances with averages of 17.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.3 steals. That sort of form makes any issues a lot easier to deal with in the dressing room.
