The fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford, longed for by Sheikh Turki Alalshikh, seems to be on the cards for September 2025.
During Canelo Alvarez’s visit to London for the The Ring magazine awards, he met with Turki Alalshikh, and accepted that the fight against Terence Crawford could take place.
“There is always a possibility. We’ll see, we’ll see, but there’s always a possibility. We are here to do the best business,” Canelo told The Ring, which gave fans positive signals.
Among the posts that add to the hype for a possible fight is a video found by Latisha Crawford, sister and trainer of Bud, about an interview she found on social media of an interview with Canelo with TMZ Sports in September 2023, which she used to criticize the Mexican boxer.
“Look, I respect Terence Crawford. He’s very talented, but he only won one big fight. If you look at his record, he only beat one good fighter. Other than that, he hasn’t beaten other good fighters like Spence,” Canelo told TMZ, and Larisha Crawford commented alongside a mocking emoji: “Everyone sings the same song,” while trainer Red Spikes added in the same clip: “Bud is going to give you a beating. With all due respect.”
Mike Tyson’s opposition to Canelo-Crawford
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson immediately spoke out about the possibility of the fight between Canelo and Crawford, and disagreed with the fight, especially because of the aforementioned issue of the weight difference between the two fighters.
“You know I don’t like that fight. I don’t like that fight. For him (Crawford) the weight difference seemed quite annoying. It’s a lot of weight,” Tyson said.
And to reaffirm his statement, Tyson recalled the fight between Crawford and Israel Madrimov in August 2024, when Crawford reigned as welterweight champion, and moved up to 154 pounds.
