Terence Crawford’s stay in boxing depends on keeping alive his options of agreeing a fight with Canelo Alvarez, before opting for retirement at 37 years of age, in which he has managed to have a successful career of 41 fights undefeated, with 31 knockouts.

Last August, Bud Crawford defeated Israil Madrimov by decision to win the WBA middleweight title, and has yet to announce his next fight.

His priority is to face Canelo, but another name that has been on the agenda is Jaron Ennis (34-0), who despite the complications, according to a report from Essentially Sports, there is still a small possibility that they will meet in the ring.

The obstacle to a Crawford vs Ennis fight

The complications for an eventual fight against Ennis began when Bud moved from 147 pounds to 154 pounds, while Boots chose to stay at welterweight and turned down a fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr.

“We’re in two different weight classes. As you can see, he just turned down a fight with Vergil [Ortiz Jr.] to move up to 154. Because he’ll stay at 147. I think Boots is going to do tremendous things in the sport of boxing,” Crawford told Boxing Social, while adding his confidence that Ennis will succeed in the division: “I think he’s potentially going to run through the 147-pound division, and when he moves up, who knows? We’ll see.”

For now, Crawford is in a resting stage while he recovers from an injury, which gives Turki Alalshikh time to get him an important fight, although facing Saul Alvarez could be complicated. Canelo has already accepted that he is willing to negotiate for a fight in Saudi Arabia, but the opponent would be David Benavidez

“I never say no to business. If it’s a good deal for me, I’m open to talk, no matter what,” said Canelo Alvarez, when interviewed at the opening of the new branch of the taqueria EL Pastor del Rica, located in Chula Vista, San Diego.
