Teofimo Lopez did not hold back and went all out to criticize Shakur Stevenson, pointing to his boring boxing style and even calling him “garbage”.
On Friday, the WBC super lightweight world champion took to his X account to send a direct and harsh message to ‘Sugar’, responding to a post where the current WBC lightweight world champion highlighted his dominance in the sport: “Lock Kur up, it’s time to take control of the game!”.
The Brooklyn native harshly criticized Stevenson’s fighting style, pointing out that the only thing he is taking control of is the sheets and pillows because he makes everyone fall asleep with his way of boxing.
He also mocked his strength, pointing out that it seems to be that of a six-year-old child: “Your average strength is that of a 6-year-old child in the body of an adult man,” he said.
Mockingly, like all his comment, he called Shakur trash and said he has no friends. “You’re trash, trash, you’re talking to yourself on Twitter because you have no friends,” he added.
Shakur Stevenson avoids tough rivals
Boxing News 24 points out that Shakur Stevenson and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, avoided a fight with Cuban lightweight contender Jadier Herrera and chose soft-hitting Josh Padley when they needed a replacement opponent for the February 22 card after Floyd Schofield dropped out due to illness
The boxing site points out that there are rumors that ‘The Takeover’ signed a three-fight, $30 million contract with Riyadh Season, an amount that ‘Sugar’ will not receive for defending his WBC belt against fighters such as Josh Padley and Artem Harutyunyan.
He adds that Hearn must tie up a fight against Gervonta Davis before his contract expires, as it will be Shakur’s only chance to win a good prize at lightweight. In addition, the WBC could order the New Jersey native to defend his title against his number one contender, Andy Cruz, who has a similar style to his but with more power.
