The long-running feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West has resurfaced in dramatic fashion after the rapper took to social media this week with explosive accusations and complaints. This time, however, Swift is responding with legal action.
Their tensions began over a decade ago during the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech, proclaiming that Beyonce deserved the award instead.
While the dust from that moment never truly settled, a series of public interactions and fallouts since then-including a dispute over a phone call and a controversial music video-have kept the animosity between the two artists simmering. Now, in 2025, it seems the feud has reached a boiling point once again.
West blames Swift for being blackballed from the Super Bowl
Earlier this week, Kanye West claimed in a now-deleted post on X that Swift was partly responsible for him never landing a Super Bowl halftime performance.
“I never was allowed to do the Super Bowl because of 3 moments. George Bush don’t care about black people. The Taylor Swift movement moment. Wearing a MAGA hat. How it feel to be the best living and blocked from the main stage because of being ahead of my time. (And I mean all of this before I went full [expletive] of course),” West wrote.
The mention of Swift in this context, particularly as he blamed her for one of the biggest performance snubs in his career, drew immediate backlash.
But things escalated even further on Wednesday night when West launched into a full-scale tirade on social media, making sexually explicit allegations about Swift and linking her to two high-profile male celebrities.
The claims were deemed so damaging and offensive that, according to The Daily Mail, Swift‘s legal team issued a cease and desist order in response.
“This time he has gone too far,” a source told The Daily Mail. “His claims are not just false they are defamatory. This isn’t just [West] gossiping. This is [West] sexually harassing a woman, defaming her and intending to cause harm to her and to her career.”
The source added that Swift had reached a breaking point with West‘s continued harassment and felt that taking legal action was not only necessary, but long overdue. The report noted that the pop star had refrained from such steps in the past despite numerous personal attacks-but this recent string of public statements was the final straw.
West has not publicly responded to the cease and desist order, and it remains to be seen whether he will address the legal threat in future social media posts or interviews.
