January 2025 ended in a very distressing way for the United States of America as a passenger jet was flown into by a helicopter near Washington DC airport.

A TSA passenger plane flying for American Airlines collided with an Army helicopter while landing at Washington DC’s Ronald Reagan National Airport, causing a gruesome fireball in the air. This immediately generated a large search and rescue operation in the nearby Potomac River.

There were no survivors from the tragic incident, meaning 67 people lost their lives. There was an outpouring of grief from all over the country, and Sydel Curry, sister of NBA star Stephen Curry, showed how impacted she was on social media.

One of the most heart-wrenching stories was of a man at the terminal waiting to greet his wife. He had received a text from his wife saying she would land in 20 minutes, but she never did.

Sydel Curry shares her thoughts

The 30-year-old social media personality was left upset by this storing, relating it to her own experiences.

“How many times have a sent the exact same text or received the exact same text? So heartbreaking. My heart is extra heavy as I’m waiting to takeoff on a flight that I’ll take weekly. Being married to someone who flies weekly. In a family of people who fly constantly…never take a moment for granted,” she wrote.

The incident at Washington was the worst aviation disaster in the United States of America since 2009.

The accident took place at around 21:00 hours (local time), so the emergency services had to work in “very dark and cold” conditions, as was explained by Muriel Bowser, mayor of Washington DC.
