The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl. In fact, they will play their third consecutive Super Bowl and fifth in six years, as well as being the only team in Super Bowl history to play a three-peat. In their previous three victories, Patrick Mahomes has been the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and that is why he is the heavy favorite to win the award in the next edition, to be held on February 9 in New Orleans.Mahomes is the leader of the NFL‘s new dynasty, which looks even more powerful than what Tom Brady did with the New England Patriots until the last decade, so it seems that the new Chiefs will make history in the coming years.
For this reason, in the betting houses, Mahomes appears as the favorite, in a dominant way to become the MVP of Super Bowl LIX.

Mahomes has odds of +105 to win the award at BetMGM. Even last year, when the Chiefs were slight underdogs against the San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes was still the favorite to win MVP, with odds of +135 before the game. For this year, the Chiefs opened as 1.5-point favorites against the Philadelphia Eagles, in the second time they have met in three years.
Where there is a surprise is in the second favorite, as it is the Eagles star, their running back, Saquon Barkley, who started the bidding with a distant odds of +2500 at the same bookmaker on Sunday, behind Eagles passer Jalen Hurts who had an odds of +1400. As the days went by, Barkley’s odds are +240 and Hurts’ is +375.
Can anyone dispute the Super Bowl MVP with Patrick Mahomes?
Although Hurts has had a solid season, Barkley is the real star of the team with a spectacular average of 7.9 yards per carry and three rushing touchdowns against Washington in a season where he surpassed 2,000 yards in the regular season. The real success of the Eagles is in the legs of Barkley rather than in the arm of Hurts
For the Chiefs, Travis Kelce is +1500 and Xavier Worthy is +3000. The thing is, in order to shine, they need to catch passes from Mahomes.
Super Bowl LIX MVP odds
Historically, quarterbacks have won 33 of the 58 MVP awards. After quarterbacks, wide receivers are the second most recognized position with eight distinctions, including Cooper Kupp three years ago as the last non-quarterback player to win the MVP award. They are followed by running backs (seven)
The last running back to win the award was Terrell Davis in the distant Super Bowl XXXII, while six receivers have won it in the last 20 years
Although a Philadelphia victory could give the award to Barkley, as he has become the offensive engine of the team, consolidating that he has generational talent, in a historic season with the Eagles
Another house, Caesars Sportsbook, also has Mahomes as the favorite with odds of +105, meaning twice the odds of any other player, even though he did not have the best regular season of his career in 2024, but has had two solid playoff performances
This house also has Saquon Barkley (+250) in second place and Jalen Hurts (+350) in third. Further back is Travis Kelce (+1600) and defensive players from either team are 60/1 or more.
