The Golden State Warriors have been struggling with injured players, a situation that has significantly affected their stability throughout the early stages of the season. Their main star, Stephen Curry, was sidelined during their most recent game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Curry suffered a bruised quadriceps muscle on Wednesday, November 26, against Houston, forcing him to watch the game from the bench. Faced with this scenario, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had to pull a strategy out of his sleeve to keep the team competitive.

Well, Trayce was out tonight with a knee issue. So, before the game, we went through the possible matchups and decided that Jimmy and JK could be a good combo at the four and the five, and kind of trading off, who they were guarding, depending on what was happening out there. So, they did a good job together.

The Warriors’ injuries push Steve Kerr to adjust pieces

Steve Kerr had to rely on Trayce Jackson-Davis and Al Horford to keep the team from losing power at the centre position. And although the Golden State coach has repeatedly stated that neither Jimmy Butler nor Jonathan Kuminga should play together, circumstances forced him to use both and think outside the box.

With this adjustment and unusual rotation, born from Kerr’s previous reluctance to deploy these specific elements side by side, the Warriors managed to secure a solid victory against the Pelicans.

Jimmy Butler finished with strong numbers at the end of the game: 24 points while shooting 7-of-15 from the field, along with 10 assists and 8 rebounds. Meanwhile, the young Jonathan Kuminga, coming off the bench, provided an important contribution with 10 points and a crucial three-pointer, ultimately logging 19 minutes of action.

Steve Kerr discusses Jonathan Kuminga’s return

Steve Kerr expressed satisfaction with the performance of the 23-year-old Kuminga, who had recently rejoined the team after suffering a knee injury that had kept him sidelined.

Thought he looked good. Obviously, he hit two big threes for us in the second half. His wind and his burst will come back. He’s a little rusty, but I thought he looked good for his first game back.

Kuminga’s last appearance had been on November 12 against the San Antonio Spurs, the game in which he suffered the knee issue that kept him out until this past Saturday, November 29.

The Golden State Warriors currently sit in eighth place in the Western Conference with an 11-10 record. Their next game will be on December 2 against the reigning champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a nighttime showdown.
