LeBron James is plotting his revenge-on the golf course. After sharing footage of his first-ever swings, the NBA superstar became the target of some lighthearted hazing courtesy of Stephen Curry, a longtime amateur golf enthusiast who didn’t miss a chance to poke fun at his friend.

While James was still getting into the groove, the elite of the sports and entertainment world gathered at Edgewood Tahoe Resort for the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship. The lineup included NFL stars Davante Adams and Josh Allen, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, actor Michael Peña, and more.

Leading the field was Curry, the 2023 champion, aiming for another win. But between strokes, the Warriors’ star gave James a thumbs-up for joining the golf world.

Curry’s cheeky welcome

Over the weekend, James posted videos of his swing sessions on Instagram, which quickly went viral. Curry responded, “Welcome. We’ve been waiting for you,” before clarifying it was all part of “rookie hazing.”

When asked by the press if the comment was meant to upset James, Curry admitted it was a bit of friendly banter. However, the Warriors star admitted the King is doing pretty well for a rookie and even had some words of encouragement for him..

Following Day 2 of the tournament, Curry posted, “Day 2 in the books. Let’s finish strong,” while James replied with a fiery batch of emojis-no caption needed.

A new challenger on the green?

Curry hasn’t ruled out seeing James compete in future ProAm tournaments. “There’s something to work with that swing,” he said. “He’s got good bones and a strong foundation. With a little practice and coaching, he’s got real potential.”

In case you were wondering: NHL alum Joe Pavelski won this year’s ACC title, followed by MLB legend John Smoltz and singer Jake Owen. Curry placed fifth. If LeBron applies the same drive to golf as he has in everything else, don’t be surprised if he’s teeing off alongside the top amateurs before long.
