Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry is stepping into a new arena – hospitality. Known worldwide for transforming the game of basketball with his three-point shooting, Curry is now teaming up with award-winning chef Michael Mina to launch two new establishments at the historic Westin St. Francis hotel in downtown San Francisco.
This isn’t the first time Curry and Mina have joined forces. Back in 2017, Curry partnered with his wife, Ayesha, and Mina to open International Smoke, a popular restaurant that combined global flavors with a community vibe.
Now, the duo is ready to make another mark on Union Square, a neighborhood seeking revival after the pandemic.
Curry and Mina bring bourbon and steak to Union Square
The project will feature Mina‘s celebrated Bourbon Steak restaurant returning to the Westin. Known for putting a modern twist on classic steakhouse fare, it will bring fine dining back to one of San Francisco’s most iconic addresses.
Across the lobby, Curry and Mina will introduce The Eighth Rule, a bourbon bar named after the seven official rules of bourbon production, with the “eighth” being their unique touch. Guests will find a premium collection of cocktails, whiskeys, and spirits in a stylish new setting.
For Curry, this is more than just an investment. It marks his first permanent venture in the hospitality world, though he already made waves in the spirits industry with the launch of his Gentleman’s Cut whiskey in 2022.
“I’ve always dreamt of creating my own little haven to bring people together, and now we have the perfect location,” Curry said. His vision is to make these spaces go-to destinations for both locals and visitors, blending high-quality food and drink with an energetic social scene.
The timing couldn’t be better. Mina has long been eager to return to San Francisco, and the new ventures will include live music and a refreshed hotel lobby, creating a mix of fine dining, nightlife, and community.
As Curry prepares for another NBA season, his offseason hasn’t been quiet. From dazzling fans on his summer China tour to taking on this ambitious new project, he’s showing once again that his influence extends far beyond the basketball court.
