Despite the absences of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever (14-12) secured a 93-78 victory over the Chicago Sky (7-18) and added a much-needed win.

CC‘s persistent groin injury caused her to miss the game again. Meanwhile, the Sky forward recently suffered a back injury, forcing her to watch the game from the sidelines once more.

This blow meant Chicago’s fifth consecutive loss and third to Indiana, and Reese‘s absence was felt. Rachel Banham scored 26 points and Kamilla Cardoso 12, but only Kelsey Mitchell scored 35 points, just three less than the total between the two.

Meanwhile, Angel managed to stand out even off the court.

White’s words about Reese

The absence of the 23-year-old Sky star was already a fact before the game. And of course, it was something the Fever coach was counting on.

However, in the run-up to the game, Stephanie White spoke to the press and did not hide her thoughts on Reese, even praising the youngster’s talent:

We know that she is the best rebounder in this league. The way they use her in the point-forward position sometimes creates some challenges.

The truth is that this new “title” given to her by White is well-founded. In her rookie season, she averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. And now, heading into her second year in the WNBA, she has managed to maintain her level, recording 13.8 points and 12.5 rebounds.

Upcoming games

Now, Sky will need to get better results in their next game when they travel to face the Washington Mystics (12-13) on Tuesday at CareFirst Arena. It is still unknown whether Reese will be available for this game.

Meanwhile, Indiana awaits the Phoenix Mercury (16-9) on Wednesday, July 30, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It is unlikely that they will be able to count on Clark.
