There’s no doubt that what happened to Shedeur Sanders in the recent NFL Draft was controversial. The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, after throwing 37 touchdown passes in his final NCAA season, was a serious candidate to be selected in the first round. However, that didn’t happen, and he ended up sliding all the way to the fifth round, when the Cleveland Browns finally decided to select him.

Spencer Rattler went through a similar experience. Back during his time with the Oklahoma Sooners from 2019 to 2021, he was projected to be a first-round pick once he declared for the NFL. But his performances began to decline, and he eventually transferred to South Carolina. In the 2024 NFL Draft, he also fell to the fifth round, where the New Orleans Saints selected him.

Last season, Rattler ended up playing in seven games with the Saints-something that would be ideal for Shedeur Sanders if he were to get that kind of opportunity with the Cleveland Browns. However, it appears that it will be more difficult for him, as there are currently three quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart.

Spencer Rattler sends motivational message to Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders’ talent is undeniable-he was projected as a first-round pick for a reason. But now, he’s in a battle that could put his NFL career at risk due to the high level of competition with the Cleveland Browns. That’s why Spencer Rattler offered some advice to the young quarterback:

“He’s a talented QB, as we all know,” Rattler said on The Rich Eisen Show. “He’s going to have his own path. Everybody has a different path. Not everybody can be selected in the first or second round. Everyone has their route, so take it step by step, day by day. I know he’ll be great. I know he’s level-headed and knows what to do-clearly that runs in the family. I know he’s going to work hard and be a great player.”

Rattler played 7 games last season, starting 6 of them, and threw for 1,317 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Now, the former Sooners and South Carolina quarterback is battling for the starting job with the Saints against rookie Tyler Shough, who was selected in the second round of the most recent NFL Draft.
