Comedian Spanky Hayes recently shared an unexpected story about the late Kobe Bryant‘s teenage years, revealing a dramatic altercation involving singer Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men.
Speaking on the Kid L Podcast, Hayes claimed that a 17-year-old Bryant punched Morris-while wearing a cast-over Brandy, the famous R&B singer and actress.
“I did a lot of background work for Moesha,” Hayes recalled. “He [Bryant] went with Brandy-that was his girlfriend, or they went to prom or some s**t. I see him sock Wanya from Boyz II Men in the mouth over her with a cast on… Kobe just took the b**ch and socked him. Bam!”
Kobe Bryant and Brandy‘s prom night remains one of the most memorable moments from the NBA legend’s teenage years.
In May 1996, the two attended prom together at the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia. While their appearance led to speculation about a romantic relationship, Brandy later clarified in an interview with People that they never dated. Despite Brandy‘s statements, Hayes’ revelation introduces a new twist. He acknowledged that he didn’t know if Wanya Morris and Brandy were romantically involved at the time of the alleged confrontation but maintained that he witnessed Bryant throwing a punch in what appeared to be a heated moment.
Hayes Praises Kobe but Takes a Shot at LeBron James
While Spanky Hayes spoke highly of Bryant’s toughness, he had a much different take when discussing LeBron James. The comedian made it clear that he isn’t a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, expressing frustration over the praise James receives.
“F**k LeBron James! I hate people all on his dk like that. LeBron James is cool. He’s one of the GOATs, he’s a phenomenal player, [but] he’s just never on my team, so f**k him,” Hayes stated.
Hayes also questioned James‘ legacy, pointing out his struggles in the NBA Finals compared to other basketball greats.
“If you went 10 times and only got in four, that’s not enough to brag about,” he said. He even suggested that Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry could be ranked ahead of James, citing Curry’s strong Finals record.
Kobe Bryant, by comparison, won five championships in seven NBA Finals appearances, making him a greater competitor in Hayes’ eyes. The comedian seemed to view Bryant’s relentless nature and winning mentality as traits that set him apart from LeBron.
