Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders have taken very different paths into the NFL. Ward is the frontrunner to start for the Tennessee Titans, while Sanders remains buried as the fourth-string quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. And when comparisons began swirling, Skip Bayless knew exactly how to turn up the heat.

The Titans’ preseason kicked off with a rough 29-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, followed by a narrow 23-20 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Ward went 7-for-15 for 119 yards and no touchdowns across both games, but impressed coaches with his command of the offense.

Sanders, meanwhile, earned praise for his performance against the Carolina Panthers last week. The young quarterback completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Browns to a dominant 30-10 victory. That was all Bayless needed to weigh in.

Bayless stirred up a hornet’s nest

If there’s one thing Skip Bayless does best, it’s spark controversy-sometimes without even trying. After watching Ward and Sanders in preseason action, Bayless posted a simple nine-word take on X (formerly Twitter): “I like Cam Ward, I just like Shedeur more.”

That single sentence unleashed a wave of heated reactions. Critics piled on Sanders with comments like: “This is how I know ShaDurr sucks,” “I’d bet serious money Ward is the better NFL QB,” and “How’s that working out for you? Cam is starting, Shedeur’s fourth string.”

A smaller group defended Sanders, including one user who wrote: “Cam Ward isn’t as good as Shedeur. That’s why most of us don’t bother talking about him.”

What’s next for Sanders and Ward?

The Browns will wrap up their preseason by hosting the Los Angeles Rams at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio. With the depth chart likely finalized, the Week 1 starter should see the bulk of the snaps.

Meanwhile, the Titans will face off against the Minnesota Vikings at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Fans are now waiting for head coach Brian Callahan to officially name Ward as the Week 1 starter.
