Brittany Mahomes has become one of the NFL’s most visible figures, often capturing headlines alongside her husband, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But not everyone believes her presence is a positive for the league.
Ernestine Sclafani Bayless, the wife of television commentator Skip Bayless, voiced her frustration in a recent conversation with her husband, suggesting that Brittany draws too much attention away from the game.
In a clip posted Friday on X by Skip Bayless, Ernestine argued that coverage of players’ wives and partners sometimes overshadows the football itself.
“And then we go into the Mahomes thing with the wife, and it’s like, this is bigger than football. It really is, now the focus is more on them, as opposed to football,” she said.
The remark came after Skip mentioned Taylor Swift‘s much-discussed relationship with Travis Kelce and her appearance on the New Heights podcast. Ernestine expanded on the point, saying, “I don’t know why this keeps going. Why does it have to become so overblown? It’s not as though she’s the first celebrity dating an athlete.”
Brittany as more than “the quarterback’s wife”
Brittany Mahomes, however, has long established herself as more than a supporting figure in Patrick‘s life. A former college soccer standout at UT-Tyler, where she broke records and earned All-East Texas honors, she went on to play professionally in Iceland with Afturelding/Fram in 2017.
Since then, Brittany has built her own ventures. She launched Brittany Lynne Fitness, a personal training brand, and co-founded the Kansas City Current of the National Women’s Soccer League, where she has become a prominent voice in women’s sports ownership.
Alongside Patrick, she also co-runs the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, which recently awarded $150,000 in scholarships to high school seniors across three states.
A devoted supporter on game day
Her visibility at Chiefs games is nothing new. Earlier this year, Brittany attended Kansas City’s playoff win over the Houston Texans just six days after giving birth to the couple’s third child, Golden Raye Mahomes. Patrick even joked that clinching the No. 1 seed in the AFC allowed the timing to work out perfectly, giving them the bye week for their baby’s arrival.
That moment was emblematic of how intertwined Brittany has become with Patrick‘s career. Her game-day appearances, social media presence, and off-field projects have made her a central figure in Chiefs Kingdom.
