Six teams will fight over one of the best pitchers in MLB free agency, which begins the day after the World Series ends.
The next MLB offseason will begin once the Fall Classic is over, which will be played from Friday, October 24, 2025 and will end on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Six teams will battle for one of the best pitchers in MLB free agency
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Dylan Cease is being linked with six teams as free agency approaches, a market which the pitcher will explore for the first time in his MLB career, making the timing of his first foray into free agency look excellent
According to Jon Heyman, the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles are the teams that could bid for Dylan Cease’s services.
Dylan Cease’s durability on the mound
The San Diego Padres pitcher Dylan Cease, who will turn 30 years old in December 2025, started his 30th game of the 2025 season, and for the fifth straight Major League Baseball campaign with at least that many outings.
Between his age and durability, teams might be more willing to overlook his otherwise mediocre numbers: a 4.59 ERA (94 ERA+), 1.325 WHIP, and just eight wins.
According to Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors “He may only have average (perhaps slightly below) control, but Cease is a durable pitcher who makes hitters miss like the best in the league. He has struck out 30.6% of his opponents. Metrics like FIP (3.52) and SIERA (3.33) feel he’s as good – if not better – than ever.”
