LA DodgersmanagerDave Roberts did not want to miss the opportunity to pamper his star player Shohei Ohtani, giving him a new car for his newborn daughter as part of their prank war.

“We have a little prank war going on, but this was a gift for the baby”, added Roberts, who has a long history of car-related pranks with Ohtani, so this gift served both purposes perfectly; to be a present for his daughter and to continue their tradition of pranks.

Prank war between Dave Roberts and Shohei Ohtani

This prank war began when Ohtani promised his manager a new car after breaking the home run record for a Japanese player with the Dodgers, a record that belonged to Roberts.

Ohtani kept his promise by giving Roberts a toy Porsche. It was a replica of the car that Ohtani gave to Joe Kelly‘s wife in exchange for the reliever’s number 17 after signing for the Los Angeles team.

The jokes continued when Ohtani left another toy cart in Roberts’ parking space, a prank to which the manager responded by emptying hundreds of colored balls inside Ohtani’s car.

And just when it was thought that the prank war was over, this unexpected gift came. As soon as he realized what was happening, Ohtani admitted with a laugh that he thought he was in trouble, before hugging Roberts.

Good atmosphere at Los Angeles Dodgers

This reflects the spectacular moment the team is experiencing, as it is currently in first place in the National League West, led by an unstoppable Ohtani, who was recently named National League Player of the Month for his outstanding performance in May with the Dodgers.

Shohei Ohtani’s stats with the Dodgers

In 27 games, he led Major League Baseball in home runs (15), runs scored (31) and total bases, while also posting a .309 batting average, 1.180 OPS and .782 slugging percentage. It is his second monthly honor with the Dodgers and sixth of his career. Ohtani equaled historic team marks and joined an exclusive list of players with multiple months of 15+ home runs, cementing himself as one of the most dominant offensive figures in MLB.
