Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani was recently seen taking a significant step in his rehabilitation process. A video shared by Dodgers Nation over the weekend showcased Ohtani engaging in a light pitching session at what appeared to be a Los Angeles-area high school.

Ohtani has not pitched since 2023, sidelined after suffering an elbow injury that required his second Tommy John surgery. The injury cut short his time as a two-way player for the Los Angeles Angels, limiting him to a designated hitter role. During the 2023 offseason, Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, but he has yet to make his debut on the mound for his new team.

Ohtani’s journey back to the mound

In addition to his elbow rehabilitation, Ohtani has also been recovering from shoulder surgery following an injury sustained during Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees. Despite playing through the pain, he underwent surgery immediately after the season ended.

The Dodgers have not set a firm timeline for Ohtani’s return to pitching. However, comparisons to Walker Buehler’s recent recovery suggest Ohtani might resume pitching duties by late May or early June. Whether he will return as a starter or take on a bullpen role remains to be seen.

Dodgers strengthen their rotation

As Ohtani works toward his comeback, the Dodgers have bolstered their pitching staff. The addition of former Cy Young winner Blake Snell headlines their offseason moves, while rumors of Japanese sensation Roki Sasaki joining the rotation could further solidify the Dodgers‘ pitching depth. Sasaki’s decision is expected soon, keeping fans eagerly awaiting updates.

Looking ahead to 2025

Ohtani is expected to primarily contribute as a DH early in the season, with the potential for occasional field play at first base. His presence, combined with stars like Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and the recently returned Teoscar Hernández, positions the Dodgers as strong contenders for another World Series title.

With patience and careful management, the Dodgers hope to see Ohtani fully unleash his two-way talents later this season, potentially adding another chapter to his remarkable career. Fans will be watching closely as Ohtani continues his journey back to the mound.
