Shohei Ohtani made his pitching debut in the 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 with a six-inning performance in which he showed ups and downs as he has throughout the postseason. During the first two innings he managed to keep the score at zero, but in the third inning he faced Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the second time, who had a runner on first base and hit a tremendous home run to left field with which Dodgers went down 2-1 and could not recover.

Dave Roberts decided to replace him in the top of the seventh inning after he was hit with two singles, which eventually ended up crossing home plate and increasing the lead for Toronto. The damage to the Japanese pitcher ended in four earned runs, six hits allowed, one home run, one walk and six strikeouts. However, questions and doubts about his next participation as a pitcher arose at the end of the fourth game of the series.

When will Shohei Ohtani pitch again in the 2025 World Series?

Shohei Ohtani did not have the best start in his first World Series game as a pitcher, but the Japanese phenomenon has shown in his career that he is a persevering person who likes to take revenge at decisive moments. But amid all this uncertainty, Aiden Gonzales of ESPN has been clear: “he has already made his last start this postseason.”

He also shared the Japanese’s numbers in his 2025 postseason appearance:

Ohtani’s first postseason as a starter is officially over, with a 2-1 record, a 3.50 ERA and 25 strikeouts against five walks in 18 innings

Finally, he commented on the role he could play as a pitcher for the remainder of the Fall Classic and how he could help the Dodgers from the mound:

If he pitches again, it would be out of the bullpen in Game 6 or a possible Game 7, something he already told Japanese reporters he was willing to do

How did Shohei Ohtani fare in the 2025 MLB postseason as a pitcher?

Shohei Ohtani has had three starts in the 2025 postseason, the first in the Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, but undoubtedly his best appearance on the mound was in Game 4 of the Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers in which he allowed only two hits and struck out 10 of the best offenses in the National League.

Curiously, the Japanese pitcher in all his starts pitched six complete innings, the longest was in the World Series when he jumped to the seventh, but he started out of control and Dave Roberts pulled the plug, replacing the Japanese to avoid more damage.

Game 5 of the World Series takes place on October 29 at Dodger Stadium at 8:00 pm, and it is the last game of the year at this venue.
