The Los Angeles Dodgers are the heavy favorites to win the World Series, and this time it would be consecutively, which would also mean securing a second title for Shohei Ohtani and the chance to achieve a historic milestone in MLB.Shohei Ohtani – Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball

The Japanese star never tires of setting new records, though this one would be more challenging than it seems, as only a select few have earned this opportunity.

Double MVP to continue making history

Throughout MLB history, only five players have won the MVP of their respective league and then been named World Series MVP. It’s worth noting that Shohei Ohtani is the favorite to win the National League MVP, and if he delivers a stellar performance in the upcoming World Series, he could join this elite group.

Last year, the Japanese player had the chance to achieve this, but he had a relatively quiet performance during the Fall Classic against the Yankees. Ohtani was hampered by a shoulder injury and managed only two hits across the five-game World Series. In the end, Freddie Freeman was named the 2024 World Series MVP after hitting four home runs and driving in 12 runs.

If Ohtani wins this award in 2025, he would become the sixth player to claim both MVPs (National League and World Series) and only the second to win all three: regular season MVP, League Championship Series (LCS) MVP, and World Series MVP.

Below is the list of players who have achieved this:

  • Sandy Koufax (Dodgers, 1963: NL MVP, World Series MVP)
  • Frank Robinson (Orioles, 1966: AL MVP, World Series MVP)
  • Reggie Jackson (A’s, 1973: AL MVP, World Series MVP)
  • Willie Stargell (Pirates, 1979: NL MVP, NLCS MVP, World Series MVP)
  • Mike Schmidt (Phillies, 1980: NL MVP, World Series MVP)
