Sheryl Swoopes has been in the news again in the last few hours when she opined on the WNBA Finals that ended up winning the New York Liberty over the Minnesota Lynx in Game 5.
The former multiple champion with the U.S. National Team and winner of four WNBA titles was the guest star of the podcast ‘Gil’s Arena’, which is also owned by former player Gilbert Arenas.
When Swoopes was asked which team she was rooting for in the last final played between Liberty and Lynx, Caitlin Clark’s now ultimate detractor didn’t bite her tongue when she stated that she would have preferred both teams to have lost.
“I’m happy for them (Liberty), even though I never wanted New York to win anything. That’s the competition in me. When I played, they were like the Houston Comets and New York. So I never wanted them to win,” said the three-time WNBA MVP.
Sherly Swoopes was also very vocal when she opined about the team losing the title in Game 5.
“But I’m glad Liberty won because I also didn’t want Minnesota to be the first team to win five championships. Because we had four, right? I don’t need them to get five,” Swoopes argued.
These statements by the former player had a very negative impact on Internet users who openly criticized her way of thinking.
