Shedeur Sanders is back on top. A single performance at Big 12 Pro Days placed the former Colorado Buffaloes star back on top as the No. 1 quarterback for the 2025 NFL Draft, to the point that some analysts are placing him as a possible replacement for a $230 million quarterback.

Deion Sanders’ son’s draft stock had been sliding for weeks. His lack of participation in the Scouting Combine and reports about his character flaws plummeted him from being a near-certain first-round pick to a late first-rounder or even falling as far as the second round.

However, Sanders is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Scout-turned-NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks asserted that Shedeur is not only on track to be the top-ranked quarterback in the 2025 draft but could replace none other than Deshaun Watson.

What did Brooks say about Shedeur?

In his most recent analysis for NFL.com, Brooks praised Sanders’ talent, describing him as a “classic dropback passer, with plus arm talent and superb touch, timing, and anticipation.”

He admitted that the former Buffalo won’t dazzle scouts “with his physical tools or natural talents.” Nevertheless, he asserted that Sanders’ willingness to play at all distances will force opponents to “defend every blade of grass, from sideline to sideline and end line to end line.”

Brooks didn’t go so far as to place him as the first overall pick, but he believed Sanders could be a perfect fit for the Cleveland Browns, which holds the second pick. He noted that head coach Kevin Stefanski has had good results with classic dropback passers like Joe Flacco and Jameis Winston.

The only problem with this prediction is that Deshaun Watson is entering the fourth year of the five-year, $230 million contract he signed with the Browns in 2022. Although the quarterback has indeed been injury-prone, his massive contract all but guarantees him the starting job for next season.

If not the Browns?

If the Browns pass on Sanders, Brooks echoed predictions that the Las Vegas Raiders could take him with the sixth pick as a future replacement to Geno Smith. However, if the Raiders don’t call him up either, his earliest option would be the Los Angeles Rams at pick 26.

There’s no doubt that Shedeur Sanders is one of the most divisive players in the 2025 Class. While some fans and analysts are relentless in criticizing his every move, others are quick to sing his praises without him even throwing a pass as a professional. Which side is right? Only time will tell.
