Shedeur Sanders has been making headlines this summer as speculation grows about his future with the team that drafted him last fall. The young quarterback is now focused on proving his value to head coach Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns’ coaching staff, determined to secure his place and showcase his potential at the professional level.

However, His position on the team appears uncertain as the Cleveland Browns count with a big litter of veteran QBs that are competing for Sanders’ roster spot. However, inside the team there have been some divided opinions regarding the inclusion of NFL Legend Deion Sanders’ son.

Is Shedeur Sanders getting a fair shot as the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback?

Inside the Cleveland Browns organization, questions have emerged surrounding the selection of Shedeur Sanders in the draft. While the young quarterback has the public support of the team’s owner, who said, “Once you’re in the building, nobody cares where you were drafted. First round, fifth round, undrafted. I’ve been around so many great players who weren’t drafted. Clearly, Shedeur has the talent to go higher in the draft. Our job is to dive in and help him.”

Nevertheless, his role on the field tells a different story. During practice sessions, Sanders appears to be slipping down the depth chart against the veterans quarterbacks like Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel. This has fueled speculation about whether he’s being given a fair opportunity to compete.

Terry Pluto, an insider of the NFL, has speculated that due to his position in the draft, he might not get an opportunity to be an essential player. “Only 7% of starters come from the fifth round. It’s true that Sanders has impressed the Browns with his work ethic and serious approach to learning the offense. But these are glorified touch football practices.” And then Pluto added that, “If the real NFL were like this, Flacco would already be enshrined in the Hall of Fame.”

The Support Surrounding Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Journey

Shedeur Sanders has shown a strong commitment this offseason, working to prove his skills and discipline within the Cleveland Browns organization. After he received support from the team’s owner, Sanders has also earned praise from Darrell Colbert, founder of Select QB Athletics, who has previously highlighted Sanders’ dedication.

“Even back then, Shedeur wanted to just come work out. He would come out there and throw with me when I was out there throwing or come work out with me.” Colbert remembers the fire and dedication that Sanders had when he was on the middle school team.

James Jones, a former NFL receiver, trusts the progress of Sanders and said that he should be taken as the second QB choice in the upcoming season. “The only other option is Shedeur because I believe he’s the most talented quarterback on that roster.”

Shedeur Sanders will keep working to show that he is motivated to approach his first-ever NFL season, hoping to make some appearances so he can be noted as one of the talented players of Cleveland. The Browns will start their 2025 season next September, against the Bengals, where the Head Coach, Kevin Stefanski, still needs to resolve the quarterback situation.
