Shedeur Sanders is back. After a minor injury scare, the young Cleveland Browns prospect is scheduled to be a full participant in Monday’s practice, alongside veteran Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.
It’s been a challenging summer for Sanders. After an unexpected slide in the 2025 NFL Draft-a surprise to many-the former Colorado Buffaloes star has faced an uphill battle on Cleveland’s quarterback depth chart. Analysts currently place him fourth behind Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Gabriel.
Still, Sanders remains determined to catch head coach Kevin Stefanski’s attention. Not even a sore throwing arm could keep him sidelined for long. After a few days of rest, he’s ready to get back on the field.
What was Shedeur’s injury?
On Saturday, the Browns announced that Sanders would miss practice due to soreness in his right arm. While not serious, the issue was a setback in his effort to rise in the team’s quarterback hierarchy.
However, Cleveland.com beat writer Mary Kay Cabot has reported that Sanders will return to practice on Monday. With Pickett sidelined temporarily by a hamstring injury, Sanders may have a chance to take reps with the first-team offense.
A crowded depth chart
Up until now, Flacco and Pickett have taken most of the first-team snaps, while Gabriel and Sanders have trained with the backups. This weekend, Gabriel even had a shot with the starters due to the absence of Pickett and Sanders.
As the Browns enter the third week of training camp and preseason looms, the battle for quarterback positioning is heating up. Sanders’ recent setback may have slowed his momentum, but his return signals a renewed push to climb the ranks.
