Cam Miller must have done something to impress Tom Brady, as everyone knows Brady is behind every move his team makes. But it was Miller himself who shared what truly helped him convince the Raiders to use one of their draft picks on him.
“From every conversation I’ve had with the GM, he has talked to me about how they want to bring in people who are winners. People who’ve been accustomed to and used to winning games. I think that was really the X-Factor in their choice to take me in the draft,” Miller said in an interview with the Raiders.
Miller spent his entire college career with the North Dakota State Bisons, improving year after year to the point of becoming a starter for the program. In this draft, he wasn’t the first quarterback selected by the Raiders, though Tommy Mellott is slated to play as a wide receiver in the NFL.
It seems what most convinced Tom Brady and the Raiders was Miller’s winning mentality, because who better to play for a franchise where the NFL’s most decorated quarterback in history is a minority owner?
In 2024, Miller threw for 3,251 yards with a 73.5% completion rate, setting a North Dakota State record previously held by Carson Wentz. He also tossed 33 passing touchdowns with just four interceptions, while rushing 145 times for 631 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
