The 2025 NFL Draft didn’t play out how Deion Sanders envisioned it. During the 2024 college football season, Coach Prime sent shockwaves by claiming his Colorado players, Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders wouldn’ accept being drafted by any team. He was also extremely confident that both players would go Top 5. That only played out as planned for Hunter.
The Heisman Trophy winner went second overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hunter and the Sanders family were thrilled, but then came an unprecedented disaster. Shedeur had to wait 142 picks in order to hear his name called, in a draft slide that will be remembered for a while. The draft slide was tough for the Sanders’, obviously, but it affected Hunter as well. The two-way star developed a strong friendship with Shedeur, and was essentially part of the Sanders family.
Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to wear same jersey number in NFL
As if their on-field chemistry at Jackson State and Colorado wasn’t enough proof, Hunter and Sanders made an eye-opening move to start their NFL careers, showcasing their unbreakable bond. Both of them will begin their NFL careers wearing the same jersey number, No. 12.
Hunter was a lock to wear No. 12, as he wore it in high school and college. Jaguars backup quarterback Nick Mullens actually had the number initially, but he has since switched to No. 14. It’s unclear if Mullens just gave it to Hunter, or if they came to a financial agreement, as is sometimes the case.
Sanders wore No. 2 in college, so that would have been his choice with the Cleveland Browns. Standing in his way is DeAndre Carter, though. The veteran wide receiver and return specialist took the number and doesn’t appear to want to give it up yet.
