The USMNT is keeping a close eye on the injury of one of its most important players, as Sergino Dest had to be replaced by an injury that does not look good. With the World Cup so close, almost any injury threatens to frustrate a soccer player’s participation, and the images released of Sergino Dest in his last match with PSV point to a hamstring injury. Similar to the one suffered by Cristiano Ronaldo.
What happened to Sergiño Dest?
Disputing a split ball in the match between PSV and AZ Alkmaar the American player went to the ground with an expression of obvious pain which was reminiscent of the last injury he suffered in the knee where he suffered a torn cruciate ligament that kept him out of action for several months.
The first impressions are not very positive, as Peter Bosz, head coach of PSV, said that when a player injures that area after a full sprint, the diagnosis is usually serious.
We’ll have to wait and see, but honestly, I think we’ll be without him for a while
So far, PSV has not published the medical report, so it will be necessary to wait to know if the American full-back will be able to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Ricardo Pepi shines with PSV
In more pleasant news for USMNT fans, American Ricardo Pepi excelled with a goal in the final minutes of the match to give his team victory and confirm that he is in great form, while he is practically 100% recovered from a fractured forearm.
Ricardo Pepi already has 10 goals in the 18 games he has played with PSV and is shaping up to be one of the great offensive options for Mauricio Pochettino in the World Cup.
The versatile midfielder is one of the most important players for Pochettino, a player with a long career, with plenty of experience in elite soccer who at 25 years of age was in full physical condition and with the maturity to be one of the leaders of the USMNT on the field, so if a more serious diagnosis is made, it would represent a very sensitive loss ahead of the World Cup.
