Serena Williams once again proved her star power at the 2025 Met Gala, turning heads and setting social media abuzz with her regal interpretation of the evening’s theme, “Tailored for You.”

Held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6, the event drew global attention, but it was the tennis icon’s fashion-forward take on “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” that stood out as a highlight for fans and fellow athletes.

Serena’s Met Gala glow-up

Draped in a light blue Moncler gown with a dramatic puffy train, Williams embraced the gala’s “dandy” aesthetic with elegance and a modern twist.

Her rose-gold bob, paired with oversized Fred Leighton diamond accessories, completed a look that was equal parts sophisticated and defiant.

Walking alongside former British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, Williams’ presence on the carpet marked a continuation of her post-tennis journey into cultural and fashion influence.

Among those left in awe were fellow American tennis stars Coco Gauff and Madison Keys, who shared their unfiltered reactions on social media.

“Serena looks really great,” said Gauff in a video shared by the Tennis Channel.

“I saw her Instagram caption, ‘What’s a dandy without a gown,’ and I thought that she was definitely playing in the more feminine side of it. People are saying it’s not on theme, but if you look at a dandy, they’re usually with someone – a woman in a beautiful gown – so I think she was perfectly on theme.”

Madison Keys echoed the sentiment, offering a glowing review.

“I really liked the theme this year and I feel like a lot of people nailed it. I mean, Serena looks phenomenal – the hair, I love all the accessories, the color is gorgeous. I also like the kind of off-the-shoulders look. I think she looks phenomenal, I’m gonna say 10/10. 10/10! She looks fantastic.”

Speaking with CR Fashion Book, Williams revealed that her look drew inspiration from the hit series Bridgerton, blending Regency-era elegance with the bold spirit of Black dandyism.

“Fashion for me is about reclaiming space and celebrating individuality,” she said.

“This look is a nod to Black excellence… a modern statement of defiance and power.”

As Serena dazzled in her romantic couture, her sister Venus Williams made a splash in a forest green ensemble that leaned into the “tenniscore” trend.

With both sisters embracing the theme through unique, personalized lenses, their Met Gala appearances were more than fashionable moments, they were declarations of style, history, and identity.
