Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian have a strong family and financial partnership yet despite their strong personal bond, the co-founder of Reddit recently revealed that the couple maintains a clear separation when it comes to investment decisions.

The move ensures their professional and personal spheres remain distinct and the 42-year-old father of Olympia and Adira opened up on the reasons behind the decision as he said, “We keep it very church and state. And that’s, by design.”

While they collaborate as life partners, their investment portfolios are largely handled independently and as the founder of venture capital firm 776, Ohanian has committed significant personal capital into the fund.

This serves both as a vehicle for his wealth and for institutional investors but despite this autonomy, he noted that Serena is involved in certain areas, particularly when investments intersect with sports.

“And we keep it; my wife and I are very church and state,” Ohanian told CNBC. “You know, as I’ve said it’s funny, all of my sports investments thus far, I have brought my wife into vis-à-vis.

“Like, ‘Hey, we’re married, and, you know, this is the thing I’m investing in. So obviously, you know, you’re getting half of the upside that I am right?'”

While Ohanian occasionally advises Williams on organizational matters and business operations, Serena has also pursued her own investment ventures. Notably, she made her first direct investment in women’s sports through the Toronto Tempo and he expressed pride in her initiative.

“It wasn’t until she made the investment in the Toronto Tempo, that was actually her first investment in women’s sports, and that was all her. And it was awesome to see,” Alexis continued.

The couple’s approach demonstrates a balance between Serena‘s sports expertise and her man’s venture capital experience.

Though he describes himself as “very competitive” and focused on maximizing returns, Ohanian respects Serena’s independence in decision-making.

By maintaining this clear distinction, Williams and Ohanian protect both their personal relationship and financial strategies, allowing each to operate with autonomy while benefiting from shared expertise when appropriate.

Their model highlights a modern approach to marriage and wealth management, blending collaboration with independence.
