Serena Williams advocates for women’s rights once again, stating they must celebrate their success: “It’s almost never enough”

Serena Williams has raised her voice one more time to address a circumstance that she believes is unfair. According to the tennis legend and women empowerment ambassador, it is time to remind women that they must celebrate their own success.

In a conversation she had while attending the ‘Stockton Street podcast‘, the 23-time Grand Slam champion spoke about what she sees as double standards between how men and women treat their achievements. Her words, like always, quickly resonated across social media.

“We are not taught to celebrate our wins”

While talking about her background and reflecting on her own experiences both on and off the court, Williams said that society often conditions women to downplay their success.

I think as women, to be honest, we are not taught to celebrate our wins. Because it’s always something new, and it’s always like – I don’t know – it’s almost never enough

The 42-year-old athlete and current entrepreneur underlined the contrast this has when compared to how men move through similar moments.

When you go out on the scene, you see mostly men having a fabulous time – as they should. But we should also just enjoy it. It’s okay to be happy and say, ‘I did a good job today,’ and be proud of what you do and just celebrate your wins

A universal message of empowerment

The importance of Williams’ message is not limited to athletes. It is really a great statement as many women may feel pressure to stay modest or decide to move on quickly from success.

Her comments, coming from someone like her who has a world record of breaking records, really struck a chord among other women.

By highlighting how easily men are celebrated for the same confidence women are often judged for, Serena was clear when she dictated that the need to shift how society measures pride and humility is a must for the next generations.

An entire lifetime of leading by example

Throughout her career, Williams has been an active advocate for the female empowerment movement, racial equality, and self-acceptance. From fighting for equal pay in tennis to launching businesses that focus on women and mothers, she has consistently used her platform to challenge stereotypes and plant her seed of support.

Her latest reflection adds another layer to her long legacy outside the court. A great reminder that celebrating yourself is not arrogance at all, it is self-respect.

It’s okay to be happy. It’s okay to be proud of what you do

Her point is simple but powerful. She is not shooting shots at men, she was explaining that they are not the only ones that should enjoy their success. Women must step up and do it too.
