Sports agent Scott Boras has generated a huge bank account thanks to his successful sports company The Boras Corporation, and is called by some as “the most powerful sports agent in the world”.
Boras has experienced a level of financial success that far exceeds that of the athletes he represents. He focuses primarily on baseball players and has more than 175 high-profile clients.
Among them are Stephen Strasburg, Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon, Alex Rodriguez, Matt Holliday, Manny Ramirez, Jayson Werth, Pete Alonso and Juan Soto.
Boras has negotiated contracts worth more than $3 billion for his clients, which gives his agency around $100 million in annual commissions in more than 30 years of experience as a sports agent.
Who is Scott Boras?
He was born the son of a dairy farmer on November 2, 1952, in Sacramento, California, and attended the University of the Pacific, where he played college baseball.
Much of Scott Boras’ personal and family life is unknown, as he has not shared much information about his life before college or about his family.
Boras was a player who hit .312 in 1972, set numerous records and was inducted into the College Hall of Fame. He then played minor league baseball for four years and eventually made the Florida State League All-Star team.
However, he had several knee problems that shortened his career as a baseball player, although his time playing baseball undoubtedly prepared him for a future career as an agent.
He went into law after his baseball career and earned a Juris Doctor degree from McGeorge School of Law in 1982. He would later help defend major pharmaceutical companies against lawsuits.
Even before he graduated from college, Boras had already dabbled in representing major athletes. With a legal education, he was able to represent two players: Mike Fischlin of the Cleveland Indians, and Bill Caudill of the Seattle Mariners.
In the early 1980s, Boras had chosen baseball as his professional career. In 1983, he negotiated one of the largest contracts at the time for Caudill, helping him sign a $7.5 million deal.
After Boras’ initial success, he became synonymous with Boras Corporation. The creation of a sports agency allowed him to expand his initial earnings, represent more clients and fuel his reputation as a tough negotiator who could help players earn even more.
In 1992, the Atlanta Braves agreed to a $28 million contract proposed by Boras for pitcher Greg Maddux, and that contract broke several records.

Scott Boras’ net worth is estimated at $450 million, after earning a 5% commission on all contracts he negotiates for his clients.
For example, between September 2017 and September 2018, he negotiated contracts worth $1.88 billion for various clients. His commission on those deals was $105 million.
Recently, another contract obtained by Boras set a new mark by arranging a deal between the New York Mets and Juan Soto for $765 million dollars and 15 years.
When agency fees are taken into account, these earnings amount to a $40.7 million “cut” for Scott Boras. This offers a clear picture of how much the agent is able to earn in a one-week period.
